The Expense Of Children

It is sad and unfortunate that our culture has no trouble investing money into material possessions, technology, trips, large homes, and fancy cars, but find children too expensive.  Material things rust and decay. Why not invest our lives into things that are eternal like your husband and your children?

Children are indeed a blessing from the Lord the Word tells us. Helen Aardsma wrote The Mother's Companion for many years. She has ten children and is a very wise, older woman. I learned a lot from reading all of her writings and you would too!

When Helen was young, there was a woman in her life that impacted her life greatly. This woman had many children, was home all the time, gardened, canned, sewed, entertained, and volunteered a lot. Helen wrote about her fondly; "I remember her saying once that she felt belittled by the more modern women of the church, that she had little education and no 'real' job.  But her family felt differently, and she impacted me more than all the 'modern' women of the church put together."

Things haven't changed at all since then. The women of most churches today value education and careers way over having many children and being home full time with themThis woman's husband and children rose up and blessed her because she valued serving them rather than making money or a name for herself. She was willing to share her wonderful life with a young woman named Helen.

Helen is married to an amazing godly man. She is so grateful to him for "giving me the greatest earthly gift a woman can have: a godly home full to the brim with little ones." She lives in Illinois and they have never had much money. They live on a farm and have a simple and unmaterialistic life. She homschooled her children so they all know how to work hard. They all walk in truth.

Our society today values careers, education, travel, and material possessions. Women who don't go after higher education and careers are looked down upon. If you are a stay-at-home mother, your value to society is immense. You are raising eternal treasures and doing what the Lord has called you to do.

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord
the fruit of the womb a reward.
Psalm 127:3
